copenhagen-based practice henning larsen architects has completed 'viborg town hall',
a six-storey civic complex in the second largest danish municipality. standing as an architectural
symbol of the growing community in the wake of the municipal merger, the atrium of
the compact building serves as a spatial link between the town hall and the local citizens.

exterior view

located on a generous and green plot outside the town centre, the design features a pair of
low-lying wings that serve as the base to the heart of the multi-storey complex.
the natural elements of the site is extended to the surface of the roof, resulting in
a structure that is seamlessly emerging from the ground. crisscrossed with a graphic finish,
the central volume of the building also hosts a roof garden that offers a view of viborg cathedral.

green roof

focusing on minimizing the town hall's energy consumption, the building is outfitted with
multiple sustainable features, including groundwater cooling, treble glazing, passive and
active coolings through open suspended ceilings, and rainwater collection and percolation.
natural daylight intake is maximized through a large percentage of glazed surfaces.
