'BFW haus' by austrian-based [tp3] architekten explores the link between connection and detachment
as two buildings, a garage and a dwelling are transformed into one unit through the use of a covered
veranda in haag am haustruck, austria. the intermediate zone is neither inside nor out, as the barn-like
structure supports a roof, but only has partial transparent screens to suggest separation without
enforcing it. the void also acts as a pause when entering and exiting the main house, cushioning the
differentiate between the outside and the inside. upon entering the interior, the residence consists of
common areas on the main level, while the top floor is reserved for bedrooms and other more private spaces.
the materials act to indicate the different areas. the vertical wooden planks of the living quarters
and the white stucco of the garage are connected using translucent glass, contrasting the solid
quality of the two ends. the consistent slope of the roof unifies the structure, making it into one
complete building.
