dutch practice MVRDV has collaborated with danish firm COBE architects submitted the winning proposal 'ROCKmagneten',
an international competition to design the danish rock museum along with facilities for the roskilde festival folkschool
and headquarters for the roskilde rock festival in roskilde, denmark. positioned between the urban center and current
festival grounds, this former unicon concrete factory will be transformed into a multifunctional creative hub to host
famous the area's annual rock event. the informal structure is currently used by artists, skaters and musicians and will
maintain the existing atmosphere by positioning volumes above the existing halls. the rough character of the old industrial
spaces will be preserved although insulated and opened to introduce natural daylight. open rooms will be interconnected
while a large section of the program will remain undefined for temporary activities, events, exhibitions and impromptu gatherings.

three dominant rectangular blocks hover above the vintage factory. surfaced with gold spikes, the museum entity will contain
3,000 square meters of galleries presenting a rock star experience to visitors. the entry plaza's red carpet creates a glamorous
celebrity entrance while the grand square dually serves to hold open air concerts. the headquarters block evokes the form
of stacked loudspeakers, clad with black rubber to complete its appearance. the educational building is a three level circular
volume which contains 80 student dorms. green technologies have been incorporated into the masterplan to ensure the
continuation of the organizations sustainable vision.
