dutch practice MVRDV in collaboration with global think tank, the why factory and JUT foundation for arts and
architecture has produced 'the vertical village', an exhibition which explores and analyzes the rapid urban transformation
occurring in east asia. the qualities of villages within cities are assessed throughout the galleries while presenting the
possibility of denser living. a myriad of models placed within a structured grid arrangement demonstrate the flexibility
of the proposed block-like structures. positioned within taipei's chung shan creative hub, a six meter tall installation of
a hypothetical configuration has been constructed in addition to gallery spaces with the opportunity for visitors to build
their own house using parametric software.

giant towers have pervaded central districts, emerging as the best solution to exponential population growth. the negative
effects of these behemoths is the eradication of small scale, traditional houses, although benefits have included an affordable
alternative and an increase in socially connected communities. the featured alternative is a hybrid creation featuring unique
individual residences within a framework to support a vertical matrix of homes.

The concept seems very cluttered. very. like a heap of randomly piled plastics (ugh don't want to say it, but it's like a pile of garbage).
Maybe there is some method to the madness but I am not digging it at all. Maybe just the conceptual models.

conceptually its great, and as an exhibition it works really well, but as a practical building solution I dont think so
