new york-based creative collective softlab has sent us images of their newest installation piece
'r&d:azzle', a pair of plywood structures conceived and produced for the creators project: new york 2011
in brooklyn, new york. completely held together by a system of zip ties, the irregular objects utilize
triangulated surfaces to ensure structural stability without the aid of a frame.

seeking to actively engage the viewers in the experience, the plywood objects are wrapped in
a graphically-arresting skin which visually warps the forms of the pieces. by encouraging the viewers
to walk around the structures, the installation is discovered from multiple vantage points within
the exhibition space. a series of windows lend views of the interior which features irregular segments
that create a inverted kaleidoscopic effect, producing fractured images of both the viewers and
the objects' immediate surroundings.
