there's more than one gherkin in the world?
dbkii   11.07.11
Pretty poor execution and very restrictive spactial concept.
What's this all about?
archic   11.07.11
the other gherkin is the torre agbar in barcelona
keith   11.07.11
another computer generated eyesore.
the reindeer viewing pavillion should have won as it is such a celebration of design, craftsmanship and nature.
megan   11.08.11
that's strange, they built the building two years ago, and now it's the winner of the WAF 2011?

Shouldn't it be a project of the last year? can you submit old projects over and over again to the WAF until it wins?
just wondering..   11.08.11
WTF...??? This toy won a top prize ? Any jourist willing to comment?

I'm not affiliated with WAF but I wanted to clear up some misconceptions here about the festival's guidelines and selection process...

Entries for the completed buildings and structural design categories had to be officially completed between January 1, 2010 and June 1, 2011 to be considered for this year's WAF awards.

Previous winners of the building of the year award:

MAXXI Museum in Rome, Italy by Zaha Hadid Architects - 2010
Mapungubwe Interpretation Center in South Africa by Peter Rich Architects - 2009
Bocconi University building in Milan, Italy by Grafton Architects - 2008

The annual festival is always held in Barcelona but the chosen projects have been from other places in the world, as seen from the three other winning projects.
