understanding place and the evolutionary approach to building, international firm despang architekten has designed the ‘krogmann headquarters’, located in lohneg, germany. konrad krogmann, wanted to use architecture to express the firm’s new philosophical approach to the business and its position as an emerging leader in the industry. the result was the creation of an iconic structure located overlooking the village.

the trapezoid shape is made of fiber cement which opens up to reveal the transparent working conditions of the space. the interior is organized within an open concept which breaks down the traditional hierarchy of the office. the simple material palette of glass and wood surfaces extend from the interior space to the exterior environment, forming a canopy and thermal threshold providing protection from the sun. the catwalk bridge indicates the north-south position of the sloping site as the building cantilevers and hovers toward the south while the northern entrance thermodynamically dissipates the cool winter winds.
