a collaboration between mexico-based firm rojkind arquitectos and design workshop esrawe studio, construction for
the 'tori-tori restaurant' in polanco near mexico city is now complete. emerging from the ground like climbing ivy,
the CNC routed facade appears to waver and curve. subtly different, the two layers of self-supporting steel were precisely
handcrafted and finished to generate the dynamic effect. the outdoor terrace allows guests to eat or drink amongst natural vegetation
while the furniture has been specifically developed for a comfortable dining experience. a complete collection of tables and chairs
were created to enhance each interior area connecting the atmosphere and function.

in reference to the digital design and fabrication methods, michel rojkind, founding partner of rojkind arquitectos, has stated:

'at rojkind arquitectos we are very rigorous about experimenting with digital design as well as getting things built.

that’s why we have specially focused on how to translate complex geometries into very simple and
understandable drawings
that benefit from local manufacturing, as is the case of working in mexico city.'

'we seek in the project a chance for the users to link with the different ambiances and choose their favorites.
each space’s materials, setup and characteristics towards the furniture generate a wide spectrum of options
and
sensations for its assiduous clients.'
- héctor esrawe, principal of esrawe studio

amazing, stunning, brilliant!
wow!   11.23.11
Do these architects know about the implications and danger of blue light for the human health?
Andrés Sánchez/Berlin   11.23.11
which is that danger?
vladimix   11.23.11
Really nice. Congratulations.
Andres   11.23.11
Blue light is outside - so even is there is some miniscule danger - i can't see it being a problem. Many nightclubs and bars use such lighting.
Bluemangroup   11.23.11
What is the outer lattice made from?

@michaelangelodesign
first paragraph

"the CNC routed facade appears to waver and curve. subtly different, the two layers of self-supporting steel were precisely handcrafted and finished to generate the dynamic effect."

I think it might be steel and you may need to read as well as look at the pretty pictures

Brilliant project with remarkably simple execution of a wonderfully dynamic space.

@Andrés Sánchez/Berlin
Blue light effects on the cornea and eyestrain are generally from long periods staring at a computer screen, in this case they will mainly be looking at the food or into each others eyes (I hope), also there is a balance of other colours there to reduce eyestrain - unless people visit and stare at the inside of the facade constantly for hours on end there is no risk - is that seriously what you were suggesting
really? - did you want to say that   11.24.11
Stunning and elegant!
Blue light is relaxing and calming, peaceful, astringent. So this space should be very nice to be in!
andrea   11.24.11
Right on Andrea. Love the step-down seating arrangement d;-)
Jetwax   11.24.11
suuuuuuuuuuuuuper amazing
leela   11.25.11
To all: I recommend to search for literature on the blue light hazard topic. This space is very small to explain it all. In Germany/Austria there is a wide discussion on "Licht-Farbe-Gesundheit" Symposiums (Light-Color-Health). The fact that blue light is used worldwide in the lighting industry without any caution or real knowledge by designers, DOES NOT MEAN that it is safe! The different lightwaves trigger various photo-chemical reactions, that in the short of long term affect the human health. There is evidence that the blue component is associated to breast cancer, retina damage and the list goes really big... AND this is not related only to computer screens! For sure this project has a great and very important aesthetical value in terms of Architecture and Interior Design and Lighting Design, I only point out that in the world of design, concepts such as "amazing", "stunning", "elegant" are very good for sales and a nice magazine cover; however the responsibility of architects, lighting designers and the lighting industry goes further.
Andrés Sánchez/Berlin   11.25.11
rojkind should stop looking at architecture blogs or magazines, no critical thinking what´s so ever, every project of his is a trend, desperate to shout the next new outdated craze, so lame.
yourmom   11.26.11
Sometimes I think people writing comments on this blog are so busy taking a piss at someone else's achievements that they tend to forget why they were even browsing this blog in the first place. Yourmom could learn from Andres Sanchez. Thats the way design should be discussed.
Mario   11.26.11
Agree with Mario, critics and discussion are always good ways to achieve design evolution and improvement. Andreas, that is a good hint for me to self research on medical and scientific literature
Sylvana   11.27.11
I think it looks like a render, surreal. Not my style, it would look better with the lights off.

You guys might find this interesting.
cheers.

Keep up the good comments!!
