prairie school architect frank lloyd wright’s ‘kenneth laurent house’ in rockford, illinois is up for auction by chicago-based international auction house wright. designed for a wheelchair-bound veteran and constructed between 1949 and 1952, the residence is the architect’s first exploration of an open plan arrangement within the form of an ellipse, which recurrently appeared in his work throughout the 1950s. the 2,500 square foot dwelling arranges three bedrooms and two bathrooms within a flowing and gently curved space to provide accessibility for the inhabitants.

the laurent family frequented taliesin, wright’s personal home in spring green, wisconsin which eventually led to the commission of the residence’s custom interior furnishings and later addition. a pair of barrel chairs, panel armchairs, six hassocks, various tables, and wrought iron fireplace grates are included in the sale. other original furnishings from taliesin include a dining table and chairs, slatted wall lights and decorative screens. occurring on december 15, 2011, the single story structure and 1.3 acre property which has been maintained by the original owners since its creation is projected to sell for 500,000 to 700,000 USD.
