‘floating bath on vltava river’ by andrea kubná, prague, czech republic exterior view with the prague castle

‘floating bath on vltava river’ in prague is conceived as a closed rounded space, floating on the water surface designed by czech republic-based andrea kubná + ondrej lipensky. independent of the river banks, the circular structure is accessible by boat. nearby the small harbors of strelecky and slavansky island, this facility becomes a location of repose from the bustling activity of urban life. a perimeter ring of leasable cabins protect an interior central pool which permits direct contact with the water. filtered with a textile membrane, dirt particles and bacteria are repelled ensuring a clean bathing environment.

with a surface area of 900 square meters and depth of 165 centimeters, the volume may hold 300 individuals at one time. four lanes with a length of 25 meters cut across the center. a sauna, steam room, bar, restrooms, showers and changing rooms accommodate the bathers. during winter, a prefabricated wooden covering will allow a frozen surface suitable for ice skating, reinstating a former tradition of skating upon the river’s frozen surface during -26 degree celsius temperatures.
