winchester-based firm AR design studio has recently completed 'lighthouse 65', a residence along the coast of wight,
an island to the south of the united kingdom. positioned 7 meters below street level, the dwelling's roof is used as a parking
deck for the owner's vehicles. a transparent cube atop the structure serves as the main entrance and also illuminates in various colors
to serve as a beacon to passing boaters. a glowing red light represents sudden drop in atmospheric pressure leading to storms
while green illustrates fair weather.

upon entering the glass enclosed vestibule, a spiral steel staircase leads downwards to the living spaces. concealed within a concrete core,
the structural center also supports the large cantilevered roof which shades the ground floor and veranda. a wide elevation
maximizes ocean views from every room.

mixed feelings about the cube, and the rest of the house. the stairs themselves i like, esp. the material treatment.

Interiors look great, staircase and its concrete squelette amazing. Concerning the exterior, I miss a greater image of neghbouring buildings. So far, this building makes me feel to be a brutal insertion in the area. GL

the light cube does not bring anything to the rest of the house... it seriously lacks integration
