as most viewed article for 2011 in all categories, this complex shows that even in our economic climate people still wish to experience and view the high life of luxury. with over 2,500 rooms it is the biggest hotel in singapore, with the world’s largest outdoor pool constructed 200-meters above the ground.

2. ‘wanderlust hotel singapore’ by loh lik peng

located in an old settlement where indian immigrants once reared cattle and livestock, this four story boutique hotel is made for guests with a sense of adventure and curiosity. with 29 rooms designed by several studios no one space or floor is identical resulting in several ‘in-your-face’ themes.

3. ‘hi matic hotel’ by matali crasset

designed to offer visitors with a new hotel typology, the project looks to create new methods of interaction and establish original experiences for travelers. the hotel houses 42 rooms distributed over five floors combining aesthetics and ideologies of both an urban hotel and a country lodge.

4. ‘(phantom) opera restaurant’ by odile decq

located in the palais garnier, france, ‘(phantom) opera restaurant’ is one of only two dining establishments to make it to the top ten. recessed in a historical building visitors pass through the facade’s original pillars to discover the undulating interior that seats 90 guests.

5.  ‘tori-tori restaurant’ by rojkind arquitectos + esrawe studio

the second restaurant emerges from the ground like climbing ivy. located in polanco, mexico, the CNC routed facade appears to waver and curve. the interior furniture was custom designed as a collection to enhance the atmosphere and dining experience.

6. ‘cabañas morerava’ by AATA arquitectos

designed to respond to the delicate context of easter island, these units were prefabricated on mainland south american then shipped and assembled on site. housing up to six visitors, power and water are all supplied through solar panels and rainwater collection systems minimizing the consumption of resources.

7. ‘nolitan hotel’ by grzywinski+pons a hybrid of luxury and domestic comfort this boutique hotel located in grace nolita, new york city, is the first built in this district. with only 55 rooms limited capacity ensures a personalized stay for all guests and uninterrupted views of the city with floor to ceiling windows.

8. ‘fogo island studios’ by saunders architecture

working to preserve the landscape and its civilization through the arts and culture, ‘long studio’ is designed to respect the dignify the fragile landscape while maintaining a connection between the past and future of the island. measuring 120m2, the angular space reflects the transition of seasons providing panoramic views of the unique terrain.

9. ‘lido mar’ by studio RHE

this new marina development is built on a former yugoslavian navy submarine dock located at porto montenegro. the site features a grand bronze sculpture that sits upon an 80 meter infinity pool which reveals geometric mosaics below.

10. ‘raas jodhpur’ by lotus praxis initiative

winner of the 2011 world architecture festival’s ‘holiday building of the year’, the 39 room boutique hotel is set at the base of mehragnarth fort, india. the 1.5-acre property consists of three fully restored 18th century structures in the original lime mortar and jodhpur sandstone.
