internationally-practicing practice kubota & bachmann architects (toshihiro kubota, yves bachmann)
has completed their design entry into the international competition for the sankt kjelds plads master planning
in copenhagen, denmark. focusing on providing a wide variety of activities and functions along the two axes
that define the site, the proposal includes the new construction of added programmatic elements such as
a sports center, kindergarden, residential apartments, offices, and commerce areas.

'the park street'
in order to clarify the current conditions of the axes, street parking will be removed for pedestrians
and cyclists. roads that connect the major public green spaces will be recreated as a green link with
maple and pine trees lining the road in an asymmetrical fashion. 'the forest street' - which runs between
the ryperken station and the poul henningsens plads metro station - will encourage 'soft circulation'
with emphasis on ecological elements rather than car circulation.

'the forest street'
injecting pockets of outdoor social spaces along each axis, the design includes the introduction of
a variety of activities such as playgrounds, organic gardens, jogging trails, and a bio pool. the project
also features a 'show window courtyard', a modern interpretation of the traditional courtyard which has
been transformed as an open and public gathering place, gaining noise protection from the road with
a glass screen. while remaining completely visible from the street, the transparent zone will combine
both public gardens and commerce together in an urban environment.
