los angeles-based firm brooks + scarpa has unveiled their design for the 'kimball art center', an addition to an existing
building located at the downtown intersection of main street and heber avenue in park city, utah. the 22,000 square foot
extension takes the form of a cloud, bringing the sky's dream-like blue glow into the city streets, engaging onlookers and
increasing their sense of awareness. the facade produces the effect of an illuminated beacon, visually experienced from a distance
and within the immediate surroundings.

the exterior glazing is surfaced with a faceted rainscreen comprised of a translucent honeycomb material, which also contributes
to the building's thermal performance. at the ground level, a glass enclosure opens directly to the street and plaza, connecting
and transitioning the existing historic structure with the contemporary addition. the upper storeys appear to hover above
the transparent base, heightening the cloud-like appearance and creating a collective cohesion to the complex.

I hope someone shows the client what polypropylene honey-comb panel really looks like.

the rendering of the western film being shown is really interesting- it would be neat to see that kind of interaction with the structure itself.

PLEASE don't do this. It is not going to look like a cloud. It is going to stand out in Park City in a way that is not going to be a pleasing focal point.

The outside profoundly attracts! You are totally drawn in to the structure! The inside is entertaining and mind enlightening! Wow!

The attention to detail in this design is astounding. I think it's beautiful. To have a firm as concerned with green architecture as Brooks and Scarpa should be a great comfort to the locals. I would love to attend sundance here!

using traditional construction methods that were common during the coal mining era, the design seeks to present through proportions and materiality the historical context of the city.

contrasting the omnipresent bungalow house in west hollywood, this residential block is defined by a segmented and cubic facade, breaking down its larger scale to relate with its neighbors.
