framing vistas towards the islands of eigg, rum and skye, the 'camusdarach house' in camusdarach sands, morar,
scotland by london-based firm raw architecture workshop is set into a steep hillside. partially submerged into the terrain
to protect from the weather conditions and prevailing winds, the low-profile roof minimizes the visual impact of the structure's elevations
within the natural landscape. wide gable walls have been integrated to maximize the views while increasing opportunities
for solar gain and natural daylight. the angles of the building in plan are oriented to address the sun's path, introducing
the southeastern morning daylight and sunset over the landscape to the southwest.
divided between three storeys, the bedrooms are centrally located below the upper level living spaces and above the main entrance
which is set at the lowest floor. a black timber cladding references the dark colors of the region's wild vegetation. the use of
prefabricated timber panel construction will reduce impacts to the environment while ensuring highest efficiency of the insulation.
expected completion is projected for early 2013.
