japanese practice satoru hirota architects recently completed 'house and atelier PTL' in kangawa, japan. measuring 210 square meters,
the combined dwelling and studio is positioned upon a 230 square meter corner lot within a residential district. a U-shaped plan
creates a centralized entry which is buffered from the adjacent street. wrapping the rooms around an outdoor patio courtyard and tree,
the configuration separates the different programmatic spaces with large sliding glass doors which may be opened allowing a
permeable circulation throughout the interior.

clerestory windows illuminate the double-storey blanched studio space creating an airy work environment within
the spacious room. half walls within the home's upper level corridors allow inhabitants to overlook the lower living areas,
sharing the natural illumination introduced from the few strategically placed windows and glass doors.

Some great details and an exquisite plan - love the way the entry alleyway puts you right into the heart of the place. I\'ve lived in urban environments in flats off of mews and there\'s a wonderful sense of arrival that comes from a procession through a tight folowed by a release into a larger open space that is still contained.

Yippe another architect designed cube. I love design boom but the architecture here seems to conform to one aesthetic, clean lined sharp edged cubes, where are the curves where are the human shaped elements and spaces. Mr and Mrs box would be very happy living here but not me. Clinical, municipal cold and uncomfortable and do they always have to be painted white!

this airy working atmosphere overlooking the landscape is contrasted with an adjacent wood-enclosed warehouse, lined with brightly colored storage shelves for a playful interior experience.
