brisbane-based practice populous have begun construction for the 'christchurch stadium', a temporary replacement athletic facility
for christchurch, new zealand, which was destroyed by an earthquake in early 2011. a symbol of the area's renewal process,
the structure is on schedule for completion in march of 2012 and will be ready for this year's super rugby season. with an expected
lifespan of 3 to 5 years, the exterior of the outdoor arena is dressed with fabric and graphics to instill an identity despite the project's
short-lived built existence.

offering the community a gathering place focused on sports, the flexible space can accommodate 18,000 spectators for both
rugby and soccer matches along with concerts. the presence of a venue for events will symbolize positive steps in the city's
gradual return towards normalcy.

But the uprights in the stands mean some spectators could miss some of the NZ players cheating? Surely a cantilevered solution would mean everyone could see everything? Then only the ref could miss the cheating.
