daniel libeskind designs piano for rom
libeskind's design for a 5 meter long grand piano
the new crystal addition to toronto's royal ontario museum is touted as one of the key buildings in the
city's architectural renaissance. the new building, which was designed by architect daniel libeskind,
will soon have a few new additions. libeskind is teaming up with german piano maker schimmel to
create a 5 meter long grand piano designed to complement the building's design. the piano is an
unconventional arched shape that is inscribed with converging lines resembling the building's exterior.
a small number of 2 meter grand pianos will also be produced for the museum. schimmel piano is one
of the few remaining hand-built piano manufacturers in the world. toronto piano dealer robert lowery
introduced libeskind to nicholas schimmel in 2002. libeskind wanted to be a concert pianist when he
was younger.
