pushkin museum of fine arts plans by foster + partners

foster + partners has unveiled their plans for the a new cultural quarter for the pushkin museum of fine arts in
moscow, russia. the plan will refurbish the existing museum and build out the surrounding site to develop a
cultural quarter. many transition spaces will be enclosed to provide year-round use and four new buildings will be
added, including a concert hall and library. the site will also be linked together with an underground level complete
with lightwells.
regarding the project foster said, 'it is a true masterplan in the sense that it is less about individual buildings and
more about the coherence of the site in its entirety, with an emphasis on landscaping and public spaces. it is also
about enhancing connections – both above and below ground.'
