‘VI palazzo ENI’ is a competition design proposal submitted by dutch firm UNStudio for the ENI headquarters complex to be located in the san donato milanese outside milan, italy. taking cues from the company’s longstanding tradition etablished by enrico mattei, the layout generates a palazzo into the site masterplan. structures with a circular footprint and open-air internal courtyard overlap to form a larger scheme with interconnected green spaces for employees to frequent during their day-to-day activities.

the horizontal spread of the spatial organization is the result of new communication outlets generating an efficient and simple dynamic between people and their work. the plan integrates research for upcoming renewable energy sources by conforming to the kyoto protocol, an initiative which the company is directly involved with. the premises is intended to be energetically sustainable and will be able to input energy into the local smart grid within a decade, benefiting all individuals that interact with the building including residents of the neighborhood.
