nestled in the forest of furillen situated in the baltic sea, stockholm-based jagnefalt milton’s ‘black lodge’ redefines the archetypal shelter to a simple geometric form which allows the user to manipulate the structure. the rigidity of its structure and interactive elements lends to its flexible definition of function, letting the user define the relationship to the exterior based on their individual needs.

the entire project is comprised of a light timber frame structure clad with wooden members which also create the floor plane. sitting unfixed to the ground, the hut maintains a respectful relationship to the site. the 4 panels located on each side, can be opened or closed individually to permit varying levels of exposure to the exterior: to control environmental factors, provide safety, or serve as an entirely closed shelter.
