rotterdam-based firm OMA has produced a masterplan proposal for holland central, a candidate host city for ‘floriade 2022‘, the biggest horticultural exposition in europe which is held in the netherlands. occurring every ten years, the current edition is open in venlo and concludes in october. the events attracts an average of 2 million international visitors. the circular plan spans a 60 hectare site and is positioned within the randstad in the city of zoetermeer. serving an area which contains 5 million inhabitants within a 50 kilometer radius, the design links the existing conditions including high-tech green houses, an up and coming agro-innovation campus, leisure park and vernacular dutch landscape along the river rotte.

visitors will be able to explore by bike or boat. five zones will accommodate the fair’s activities, concentrating areas related to technology, innovation, global market, leisure and culture. the park features an outdoor 2,500 seat theater, land art installation, global village and cable car which connects across the district.
