the new elephant house at copenhagen zoo designed by foster + partners opened earlier this week. the new
facility was not only designed with the zoo visitors in mind but also the real residents: the elephants. after studying
the behaviour of elephants a final design was created which used a combination of outdoor and indoor space for
the elephants to roam. the two interior domes have glass ceiling, which make the spaces feel more natural.
the glass also has a special patterned applied to it which simulate the shade provided by the forest canopy. this is
foster + partners first zoological project.
