the 99k house competition took place earlier this year. entrants were asked to submit housing designs for
a single family home which could be up to 1,400 sq. ft., including 3 bedrooms and 1.5 to 2 bathrooms. additionally,
the house had to be able to fit on a 50 ft. x 100 ft. and be built for under 99,000 usd. this april, a jury selected the
entry of robert humble, joel egan, ben spencer, owen richards, tom mulica, and kate cudney, with hybrid / ora as
the winner. beginning this month construction will begin on their design in houston, texas. the project and
competition was sponsored by the rice design alliance and the american institute of architects’ houston chapter,
while the city of houston donated the land for the house.
