‘casa kike’ by architect gianni botsford not only won a RIBA international award but was also
recently named the most outstanding building outside the EU by a RIBA member, as a result
of winning the prestigious lubetkin prize. architecture journal now has an interview with the
winning architect gianni botsford in which he describes some of the behind the scenes
details of ‘casa kike’. most interestingly we learn that the ‘private client’ who commissioned
the residences was actually botsford’s own father.
the double pavilion residence located in costa rica features a main studio space, with library,
writing desk and grand piano. inside the space, 10 m roof beams provide a column-less
interior. the main façade is covered in louvered glass windows providing views of the sea
shore. following the connecting walkway is the second pavilion that houses the sleeping
quarters and bathrooms. both structures are stilted and clad in corrugated steel sheeting.
