serpentine summer pavillion by frank gehry

serpentine gallery pavillion designed by frank gehry

frank gehry has designed a temporary structure for the serpentine gallery as part
of their annual summer pavillion. this is the first building that has been constructed
in england by gehry. he worked with his son samuel gehry to create the structure.
his inspiration came from timber structures, garden parties, a flock of butterflies
and a military catapult created by leonardo da vinci. the structure is 16m high,
consists of large timber planks, hanging glass and beams with an inner core
of structural steel. the pavillion will be open to the public from next week and will
hold talks and events.



the pavilion is designed as a wooden timber structure that acts as an urban street
running from the park to the existing gallery. inside the pavilion, glass canopies
are hung from the wooden structure to protect the interior from wind and rain and
provide for shade during sunny days.

This is pretty bad. Looks like a trash heap. I do like some of Gehry's work, but it can be hit or miss.
