OMA model maker vincent de rijk

model of the seattle public library by OMA
archinect recently interviewed model maker vincent de rijk. while you may not recognize his name,
you will most definitely recognize his architectural models for some of europe’s most well-known
architects. de rijk counts rem koolhaas’ oma among his clients. in addition to building models, de rijk
maintains his own design practice where he mainly builds designs using polyester. he has become
an expert in the subject and his early experiments with the material were actually the beginning of
his career in model making.
vdr: that's a question that always comes up and it's of course true, but it's also logical. everything
so I don't see that as something special that you add. but it's also tricky because with the model,
it's usually hard to see anything consistent anytime before it's finished, and that's when the
architect starts to react on it...and it's usually already too late. but rem is good at that. he can find
the right moment to see what can be changed.
