venice architecture biennale 08: the scottish pavilion

the scottish pavilion stands independently outside venice's main railway station

for the first time this year, scotland is independently exhibiting a temporary work 'a gathering space' at the
11th international venice architecture biennale. presented by the scottish government and the lighthouse
(scotland's national architecture and design centre) the installation is located in piazzale della stazione santa lucia,
the central train station in venice. created from sustainable materials, the 7m-high wooden structure is meant to
be a public gathering space which invites visitors to sit, take a break, interact and contemplate, while enjoying a
different view of the city. during the biennale's opening events, 'a gathering space' was the centre of a number of
discussions and venue for live entertainment.
