schmidt hammer lassen architects have just been named the winners in a competition to design the
new sports and leisure complex and overall master plan for holbæk harbour in denmark. their design
is most recognizable for its sculptural roof that was designed in reference to the heritage and scale of
the old harbour. the master plan is designed to turn the old port area into a contemporary urban centre.
blocks are created close together with small alleyways in between them. all the blocks are placed
around the central harbour square, which serves as a public gathering space. located inside the
complex will be a water culture centre, a multi-purpose hall, activity rooms, a health centre, hotel,
restaurant as well as a four-screen cinema and sports kindergarten. the design aims to harmoniously
connect the city with the harbour.
