heat is an initiative of the state of queensland in australia to create environmentally responsive
and responsible buildings. home to five world heritage sites and wet tropics the state is one
which requires preservation. two firms who are part of the organisation are jma architects
and cox rayner architects.

jma architects used the idea of space to incorporate natural light when they designed the rural
cooroy studio located on the sunshine coast. the building also consists of solar hot water and
a water harvesting storage unit.


cairns convention centre by cox rayner architects, 2000

the cairns convention centre built in 2000, designed by cox rayner architects was built with the tropics in mind.
the roof of the building acts as catchments for water during the wet season.

their work along with 20 other architects will be featured in the exhibition 'place makers: contemporary
queensland architects' that is currently on display at the gallery of modern art, brisbane, australia. it will
be held until november 23, 2008.
