the prestigious emirates glass leaf awards grand prix has been awarded to the danish firm schmidt hammer
lassen architects for their ‘performers house project’. this building was designed as a modern version of
a danish folk high school and is located in the danish town of silkborg. the building was built using an old
papermill as a base. the architects repurposed the building using non-traditional materials in all new
development. the school now includes many facilities which encourage visitors from the town such as
a cinema, theatre and café. perhaps the building’s most stricking feature is the perforated rust-red panels
on the exterior. these steel piece allow beams of light to filter through at night, making the building glow.
