park royal gateway proposal by 5th studio
park royal is located halfway between central london and heathrow airport and is europe’s largest industrial
estate. however plans are underway to revitalize this land into public space. the park royal partnership and
design for london commissioned the award-winning 5th studio to create a strategy for the site. their aim was
to protect park royal’s long-term competitiveness through improvements to the public realm, making things
better for businesses, residents and visitors alike. one of the key design features was to make the whole
area more pedestrian friendly by adding bike and walking lanes and minimizing car traffic. their proposal is
a more a tool-kit of tactics rather than a prescriptive plan. their plane was to concentrate on issues at all
scales, not just architecturally or from a planning perspective. The new plan was officially launched today
at new london architecture.
