the BD young architect of the year award (YAYA) honours the UK’s most promising architect under 40 years
of age. we presented the 6 shortlisted architects for this year’s award a few weeks ago. in london last night,
hackett hall mcknight was named as the BD young architect of the year at the award dinner ceremony.
the prize included the yaya trophy, 5,000 GBP and a consultation package from the pr agency
caro communications.

hackett hall mcknight are based in belfast, ireland. the firm was established in 2003 by mark hackett and
alastair hall, while ian mcknight joined in early 2008. their studio now has 12 people who work on projects
at a variety of scales ranging from furniture to large public buildings. the judges commended the firm’s
strong portfolio and their involvement in promoting architecture in belfast. the museum arts centre,
the studio’s first public building, will begin construction next march.
