last week saw the opening of the level centre in derbyshire, UK, designed by london based firm clash associates. the centre is the new home to first movement, an organisation that develops arts projects with people with learning disabilities. the level (live event link) project allows creative collaborations between different groups of learning disabled people who live many miles apart, by means of live video and audio link-ups.

designed with the environment in mind the building incorporates natural lighting and ventilation. constructed from handmade brick and green zinc the centre consists of meeting rooms, offices and creative studios. the materials were chosen as they are low maintenance, flexible and can provide good thermal and acoustic qualities.
