abu dhabi a walkable city

abu dhabi

american landscape architect robert egan is currently working on a project in abu dhabi, that involves
converting a downtown car park into a mixed use public space. also an abstract painter he considers
the connection between the natural and built environment as one of the most important elements of design.
abu dhabi, the second biggest city in the united arab emirates is currently under going major developments
under the 2030 plan to allow the city to become a recognized global capital. unlike dubai where buildings have
sprung up everywhere, abu dhabi has the potential to become one of the most walkable cities in the world.
egan suggests focussing on space rather than scale, where the city can be connected through pedestrian
walkways, and use waterfront properties as communal areas.
