construction of francis marion university's new performing arts center broke ground on january 30.
the new performance hall, located just outside florence, south carolina, is being designed by holzman
moss architecture. the new project is significant because of its patent-pending mechanized stage shell.
this innovative new design allows a single person to transform the stage set-up form a symphonic
performance to hosting a theatrical production in less than five minutes. with the push of a button,
the stage can transform dramatically, something that typically takes a large crew many hours.
additionally the new stage shell is being made from a recycled strand board, making it both
economically and environmentally sound. holzman moss architecture has a number of years of
experience in public building design, including numerous performance spaces.
