architect j. max bond jr. died on february 18 at the age
of 73. he was one of the most accomplished and influential
african - american architects of his generation.
throughout his career he was responsible for many new york
city public projects that included the the audubon biomedical
science and technology park in upper manhattan and the
schomburg center for research in black culture in harlem.
at the time of his death he was working on the national
september 11 memorial and museum.

in 1970 after gaining experience in france he returned to
america and set up the firm bond ryder & associates. in
1990 the firm merged with davis brody and associates.
