singapore civic & cultural centre by aedas

singapore civic & cultural centre by aedas

set for completion in 2011, the new singapore civic & cultural centre designed by aedas, will incompass
54,000 square metres of space. the new project is located in the vista xchange precinct of one-north, singapore and will feature retail, cultural and civic spaces. the retail portion is designed to spiral around
the topography inward and will include an open amphitheatre. a grand foyer above connects the retail
portion to the building’s upper cultural and civic functions. this upper portion will feature a 5,000 seat
auditorium, the largest of its kind in singapore. surrounding this will be all the necessary administration
and technical spaces. the architects’ aim was to blur the line between the various elements, bringing retail
and culture together. they also played with the interplay between indoor and outdoor to create this very
distinct building.

it looks some kind of spontanious architectuire, dont like it

stop destroying my neighborhood. this is juvenile architecture at best.
qiu   03.12.09
why in the world would you ever want to combine culture and retail? who wants to have cultural events in an over indulged mall? not I.
s.   03.12.09
This makes me want to vomit. This kind of architecture is embarrasing to the profession. Everybody and their dog can produce fancy renderings, but evidently, not everyone can design.
j.   03.12.09
the night render is cool

Extravagance for the sake of extravagance.

Welcome to Singapore. :)

Remember the Arc in london? now left pretty much empty... and looked visually very remeniscent of this.

the definition of "Cluster F*@k".
awarbs   03.13.09
poorly designed. ugly form. no order at all.
and Aedas, please stop laying off people.
yhi   03.14.09
The worst thing is, the project is funded primarily by one of Singapore's mega-churches - City Harvest, and will house their evangelical services.
guapochino   03.16.09
guapochino, get your facts right. Its a joint venture with CapitaLand and Rock Productions. The latter is the investment arm of New Creation Church, not City Harvest.

I love it . . .

Perhaps the only thing that is compelling about this design is the fact that it offends "architects". If there are no failures in the built environment, then what would we have to improve upon. You pay for what you get, and someone is paying for this. But no seriously, this looks like someone needs to lay off the peyote.
