february 27 – march 27, 2009
today marks the last day for the exhibition ‘an atlas of fabrication’ by german architecture studio
barkow leibinger. the exhibit looks at the studio’s interest in material research and machine-tool
fabrication. while their research is experimental, the studio integrates new materials, forms and
ideas into their final projects. the show aims to demonstrate how the studio favours a material
architecture approach, that is one that is at its core determined by the treatment of materials.
the exhibit presents the work very casually, mimicking the arrangement of the projects inside
the firm’s studio space. a variety of materials and processes are on show, as well as a selection
of projects showing how these experiments translate into buildings. one of the highlights is the
acrylic tube chandelier which dominates the exhibition space.
