arquitextonica: bio-logicas roofing proposal, bilbao

lourdes bueno and miguel villegas of the spanish architect studio arquitextonica have
sent us images of their winning proposal for the roofing of dos de mayo street in
bilbao la vieja, bilbao. entitled 'bio-logicas' the design is ruled by plastic logics,
adaptable to the situations they fit in:

logic 1: fold and unfold -like biological elements that react to atmosferic conditions,
the project folds and unfolds, responding to the environment conditions.

logic 2: geometry - we take profit of the triangle geometric conditions, undeformable
on its own, to generate a resisting pattern with materials that otherwise wouldn’t have
any kind of capability. the triangular tiling and the geometry it generates is not
fanciful, its essential and necessary to guarantee structural stability.

logic 3: economy - affordable and low maintenance materials. galvanized steel arches
and standard tent canvas with steel fittings for its setup.

logic 4: landscape - through the addition of modules and its transformation capability,
fold and unfold, we create an artificial landscape with natural components. people,
their activities, their interacction and their party make the landscape vibrate and transform.

logic 5: adaptability - this project works on a determined situation. the plascitity of the
project intern logics allow its further adaptation and improvement. a set of self-storing
trolleys with trays and a security door would be used as shopwindows, allowing their
parking at each module and an easy setup and uninstall.

logic 6: simplicity - all the project systems are of an elemental simplicity: steel
fittings on the canvases as fixing and movement system. double sewing seams to guarantee
the folding pattern. fixing to the existing urban furniture to allow easy set up
and dismantle.

more information on the project is available in spanish from the arquitextonica website
