OMA: prada transfomer

OMA’s transforming event structure for prada has been completed and achieved its first successful full
rotation. announced last fall, the ‘prada transformer’ is the latest collaboration between prada and the
dutch architecture firm OMA. the structure is designed to accommodate a series of events and currently
sits outside of the gyeonghui palace in seoul, south korea. the tetrahedron design has four different
configurations which can simply be switched by rotating the structure with construction cranes.
the structure is thus designed so floors can become walls and walls become ceilings. the structure is
madeof steel and covered in a white elastic membrane created by cocoon holland bv. the prada
transformer will open to the public on april 25th with the exhibition ‘waist down – skirts by miuccia
prada’. after this exhibit, the transformer will house a cinema festival, contemporary art exhibitions
and fashion events in the months to come.
