hiroshi nakamura and NAP architects combined a publishing house and bookshop into a single narrow
space in shibuya. the design combines the two functions by placing the bookshop up front and gradually
transitioning into the publishing department. the sides are the long and narrow space have been clad in a
series of bookshelves all painted white. further along a 30m long black board sits behind a long desk that
is used for production purposes. the workers at the back can use the space to show the public what they
are working on, immediately gauging their reaction and preferences. in an age where e-commerce has
grown to such mega proportions, the designs wanted to create a physical space that provided something
more than a standard store. the books themselves have even been organized chronologically allowing
customers to navigate the shelves as if they were looking through time.
