franklin azzi architecture: passive house, normandy france

franklin azzi architecture designed 'passive house', through renovating a former
hunting house in normandy, france. the extension consists of wood, canvas covers
a camouflage of the cuban army. above is a wooden terrace overlooking the valley.
slabs of the house to the left and right include a heated floor and external industrial
sockets. in front of the house is a bunker made from concrete for an office.

the project meets the requirements of high environmental quality as it includes
rainwater collection,  the use of solar energy (hybrid) and geothermal energy, and reduction
of raw material by optimizing the efforts to structure. the assembly of the structure was done
on site with all recyclable materials from a distance of 100km.  wood and vegetable fibers
are used for the walls providing insulation and  windows provide natural ventilation, etc.

Love it!
wury   05.26.09
excuse me, but can somebody tell me where are the solar panels? I can see them in renders but not real life..

And where are the watering harvesting systems?

And much more important... WHAT tha heck are those military tents doing there???
l3utterfish   05.26.09
so they went for the child friendly option :)
Malco   05.26.09
really amaizing...
capatol   05.26.09
interesting, i wasnt sure which way this was going to go for a second, military bunker style or environmentally friendly style.
cool designs though. how well do the vegetable fibers insulate?
joybox   05.27.09
Wow Darwin would be proud... no railings look mom! Splat!
Mr. Meyers   05.27.09
Just average TBH, design isn't really inventive, what were the tents all about? a bunker office in the middle of nowhere what for protection from ze germans? Wheres the solar panels? I see loads of roof space wasted, vegetable fibres? is it really ever a good idea to use food for anything other than eating? look at how biofuels have pushed up world food prices to an unprecedented level. And how can it be justified to use all that wood in a structure that only needed it for beauty purposes? seriously I'm all for green and conserving resources but f*cking stupid stupid people who only think of the outcome on their end piss me the f*ck off.
Gazzy   05.27.09
Really Amazing, Very beautiful house.
Marc Kroon   05.28.09

It's very nice, but... 150,000 Euros for 60mē? You can't be serious... I'd have pulled down the place completely and built something reasonable.. ;-)
Bernd   05.29.09
wow what a architecture

I like the concept, but am also unable to see the solar panels or any evidence of water collection. Don't mind the wood being used as it is beautiful, but really would like to see some form of railing on the balconies. Not sure about how 'passive' heated concrete floors are and really, really don't like the cuban camouflage tents - that's just ugly.
Meredith   05.30.09
Why are the rafters so huge, they are a massive overkill and waste of materials, that is, if this is supposed to be eco-friendly. If you are using the rafters as a design element, okay, but eco-friendly? NO! I do like the house though, very nice.
Martin   05.30.09
THIS is INCREDIBLE! TO THINK that a POST W.W.II ,run - down ,former hunters' Cabin could be Re-tooled into something GRANDER than a Beach-House on Malibu,CA. in the Early 1980s' !! "ONE FACET, ONE CONCEPT-- at a TIME!!
H. SHANAFELT   05.30.09
This house seems quite pointless...
CTH   05.30.09
When are they going to finish it????
