construction has begun for a social housing project by mecanoo architects in malaga,
spain. the residential design consists of 170 social dwellings and the plan follows
the traditional layout of the historic city centre. the apartment complex has seven different
housing types such as duplex homes and homes designed specifically for people
with disabilities. each are situated around eight patios, four of which are larger
and interconnect, creating a common public space. the four smaller patios are more private,
allowing access only to residents, creating a communal atmosphere. sustainability plays
a key role with natural light, ventilation and solar panelling to minimize energy use.
the complex is expected to be completed in 2010.
