the guggenheim museum and google are teaming up for an virtual architecture competition beginning
today. the design it: shelter competition ‘invites the public to use google earth and google sketchup to
create and submit designs for virtual 3-d shelters for a location of their choice anywhere on earth’.
the competition is open for submissions from today until august 23, 2009 and ends on october 21, 2009
where two projects will be awarded prizes. entries must be designs for 100-square-foot structures in
which to live and work. the competition theme is inspired by the guggenheim’s architect frank lloyd
wright, who’s frank lloyd wright school of architecture has been running a similar project with its s
tudents for the past seven years (like the realized project shown here).
