james corner field operations & diller scofidio + renfro: new york city highline

the much anticipated highline redevelopment opened to the public today in new york city’s meatpacking
district. the design was created by new york based landscape architects james corner field operations
and architects diller scofidio + renfro. the highline was first created in the 1930’s as an elevated rail line
and remained in use until the 1980s. after many years of sitting empty, the first section of the highline is
now completely renovated and the second part will open next year. the new design features a winding
pathway accompanied by wildlife on each side. throughout the strip of elevated terrain the architects also
placed benches and other special areas for gathering.

I just left this same comment on ArchDaily. Crediting Diller Scofidio + Renfro as the lead consultant team is poor reporting at best or disengeneous at its worst. Field Operations has been widely credited as the lead designers on the project and from my understanding the prime contract holder with the client. If anything the posting should read “designed by landscape architects James Corner Field Operations, with architects Diller Scofidio + Renfro” as is done on the high line website.

The landscape architect, James Corner, is the designer and lead on this project. To be fair, that's how you should describe yourselves....

I also feel Design boom should properly credit Field Operations. Its completely inappropriate to have DS+R’s name at the forefront of this blog. What an amazing project i cant wait to go!!!

It's nice to see that people are giving due credit to Field Operations, an amazing Landscape Architecture firm lead by James Corner. They really were at the heart of this project.
