daniel libeskind has entered into the market of pre fabricated homes with his latest
'villa- signature series' project. the 515 square meter, two story villas are based on
the shape of a crystal, with sharp edges.

mimicking the jewish museum in berlin and other architectural works by libeskind,
the villa’s exterior is enveloped by an elegant standing-seam zinc façade, which enables
technologies such as a solar thermal system and a rain water harvesting system.

the villa is largely constructed of wood due to its impressive carbon-storing capabilities.
the core offers maximum thermal insulation, and thus efficient operation. with more than
360 mm of recyclable wooden fibers and a heat transition coefficient of 0.11 W/m²K,
the insulation of the villa’s exterior walls matches that of passive houses.

the villa employs onsite renewable energy sources for heating, electricity and water.
its standard configuration includes a solar thermal system which is invisibly integrated
into the zinc façade, as well as a geothermal system with a high-efficiency heat pump.

in addition, electric power may be generated from photovoltaic thin film, while rain water
can be harvested from the rooftop for use in the garden’s irrigation system.

the villas consist of four bedrooms, four bathrooms, kitchen, grand room, a 4 meter tall
rain shower, a basement sauna, a fireplace room and a wine cellar.

the villa can be shipped and assembled anywhere in the world and is expected to cost
between 2.8 to 4.2 million USD.

someone has a bizarre understanding of what prefab is. this is not it. wtf?
rt   06.18.09
oh the tragic irony from deconstruction to prefabconstruction.
AAB   06.18.09
Why don't you explain, big man? Tell us the true meaning of "prefab" other than the fact it means....? Prefabricated!

It doesn't matter how big, small, the form is as long as it's parts are in one place then delivered to another site to be erected.... then it is a prefab!

Thanks! I usually charge to pass out knowledge but this will be on me.

i just threw up...on my computer
juan   06.18.09
does this means that we can have millions of houses just like this?... oh f**k...
a prefab house of libeskind is like making 10.000.000.0000 units limited edition ferrari... nonsense and stupid...
Tiago   06.19.09
I used to love Liebskinds buildings , Having been to the jewish museum in Berlin which is an amazing building.

I do feel however that every new Liebskind building looks the same as the last.

Every new building just seems to be a rehash of the last there is no progression whatsoever and his new designs seem to lack context to their surroundings
Scribble   06.19.09
wow, i would just love to live in a holocaust museum
wtf ???
erd   06.19.09
I know someone who is building a prefab house with these amazing things called studs
ohbrother   06.19.09
Makes no sense...
anna   06.19.09
I would like to order one for my father, one for my mother and two for my brother, who's just divorced.
jan   06.19.09
i agree with brian-many buildings are prefab from houses to commercial.
from windows, frames and trusses to concrete tilt panel.
all prefabbed.
personally, i love this design!
mattb   06.19.09
I love the design. It may be similar in style to his previous projects but if you buy a Libeskind house surely you want it to look like his work.
henryep   06.19.09
It is sad that an architect can still shock. As the majority of standing buildings are unqualified builder achievements.

There must be a very good reazon for it not to be fire proof.
Rui   06.19.09
Cool looking home, I personally wouldn't want something so sterile though.
andrew   06.19.09
i'd live here. not.
jonas   06.19.09
all the angles make me want to go home and try missionary position
danny   06.19.09
I presume that, like Libeskind's (highly overated), Museum in Berlin, the jagged forms symbolize trauma, and that the angles of the lights and windows symbolize the exodus of the Jewish diaspora.

Which leads me to ask, why are these things applicable to a suburban house, especially if the owner is not Jewish?? Who is one-trick-pony Libeskind trying to fool with this one?
The Smart One   06.22.09
In Russia - we use smart invention and will fix everythink with many PoP Rivit! Even Space shuttle had them.
BORIS   07.03.09
I have a good network recommend .first ,i want to ask same question .
are you a fashion human ?Do you hear omega watches, replica watches? If you answer:"NOT". you can come to here to see see(fashion watches ),because most of human have omega watches, replica watches.
replica watches   07.06.09
"...not just a rectilinear object plopped on the landscape."
Really? Well isn't this simply a sculpture plopped on the landscape? Design is about context - inhabitants as well as place.
JimS   07.06.09
Libeskind is not creative. He is intellectually bankrupt. That's why he has to use the one form for museums, houses, offices. I hear the fool is trying to sell pianos and teapots with this same stupid shape. Libeskind was accurately described as an "architectural fart" fouling up the air we breathe.
Twenty-Seven   07.08.09
It's more interesting than the average house, and some people will like it and others will hate it.

However, I can't see how this is possibly worth US or 4 million.

Unless Zinc is as expensive as Gold or Platinum?
amicus   07.16.09
another megalomaniac..
joe7   07.16.09
Hello? Earth to architect. Unless, I'm not understanding something, this is about as pre-fab as a bespoke suit...
treynyc   07.17.09
Wacky exterior...Conventional interior, Libeskin has not done a great project since the addition to the Jewish museum in Berlin.
