norman foster has been selected to head one of three groups which will aid in the preparations
of a master layout plan for hong kong's new cultural district. known as lord foster, he was already
previously involved in the scheme, which stopped three years ago due to public outcry over some
of his designs for the complex. foster caused controversy when he proposed a 15-metre-high
glass canopy which would cover most of the 40-hectare cultural complex, which is to be built in
the western kowloon area of the city.

the other two teams will be lead by rem koolhaas and local architect rocco yim.
the entire cultural district project is set to cost 21 billion hong kong dollars and will start within
the next three years.

it was bad enough that he was chosen to blow the last load of hong kong's money for the airport (since england could not take off with the cash or stymie it in any other fashion) and now they have the tax evading lord come back to do the dirty again

What the fxxk you're talking about? It was lucky enough for Hong Kong to have the foresight to build the world class airport and now, everybody there are so proud of it. Since than it also boosts the economy and creates jobs. Nobody did it better than Norman Foster! It's time again for Hong Kong to have another major project to boost the economic situations. By saying such bitter, stupid comments, you're either a communist from mainland China or simply retarded.

Ha ha! Leslie, you made my day :)

don't say that to communist and mainland china , hongkongese govern hongkong , we don't have prejudice to you , we are all chineses.
susan   07.23.09
wow way to make us look bad 10dier... You're obviously not from Hong Kong, who the hell calls the people from HK "hongkongese" fxxkin tard... don't act like u belong. Although HK and Mainland China have their differences, in terms of politics, law and economics. The people of HK are proud to be part of China once again. The only people that seem to have a problem grasping around the idea of being part of China are the white people.

so to all you other racist numb nuts gooooooo fxxk yourselves..

Leslie your great..... but ...... if this is the final design then its terrible for Hong Kong. It ( from what i can see ) is more of a development for the city than the people. it would have more impact as a city park intergrated with a concert hall and a public theater. something similar to millenum park in Chicago, or the Arch grounds in Saint Louis, even a bit like the National Mall in DC. these intergrate the arts and monuments in to a open public space.

I think Norman has enough buildings in Hong Kong. They should have let someone fresh to work on this project. just look like another glassy airport type structure to me. and i think the green landscape in his presentation is really deceiving as most plants suffocate under pollution in Hong Kong. I would have suggest a hugh air filter for this area, or maybe a man made rain forest
