DuPont™ Corian® design studio launches in new york

located in the flatiron district of new york city, DuPont™ opened the first ever Corian® design studio.
the space was designed by michael morris and yoshiko sato of morris sato studio, a new york based
architecture firm. they have integrated unique lighting as well as sound and shape technology into the
space, such as the starry sky lighting installation made from 74 pieces of thermoformed Corian. the design
studio is an interactive workshop that allows designers and architects to talk directly with experts about
there material needs. it will also showcase design applications for dupont surfaces. the Corian design studio
is a collaborated effort between DuPont, surface solutions provider evans & paul, and marketing distributor
dolan & traynor.

Petrochemical crap.
Jon   08.04.09
That wooden flooring looks out of place. Tantamount to an insult to the the natural world.
Wormwood   08.04.09
Your being to kind Jon to this 80's science project throw back what is with that lighting for f**ks sake starry sky lighting installation I'm goin blow lunch. Have you heard of anything more ridiculous. That's exactly what I want to feel when I'm indoors a starry sky. Why not a laboratory where the designers use their own concepts. They should be renamed studiosubmoronic.

I was there for the opening and it is truly a beautiful space. The lighting is innovative and the way it changes colors is cool. Maybe you haters should show us your designs instead of just running your negative mouths.
Patricia   08.05.09
I was no where near there for the opening and it is truly an ugly space. The lighting is a waste of precious resources and the way it changes colors is superficial. Maybe you lovers should consider the consequences of production instead of just running your vacuous mouths.
Jon   08.05.09
The lighting is a waste of precious resources? LED's are far from a waste, high efficiency and lower energy consumption. Couple that with renewable, green guard Corian and I can't see the waste. Turn the 25 watt bulb ontop of your head on and you might be able to see our sustainable future. You might look into an LED light if your cave is too dark.
(I am sure is is a lovely space tho)

The word 'Sustainable' is always debatable and is for sure surface deep. I believe that one should study the product life-cycle in detail before really passing on shallow comments. For all the haters, did you know that using renewable polymers is considered more sustainable than felling trees and digging stone quarry's.
Arv D   08.06.09
Sustainable Future: refers to the ability of an action to be carried out without diminishing the continuation of natural processes of change or damaging the long term integrity of natural or cultural environments, while providing for present and future economic and social well-being.

The true colour of Corian is green and it comes through in a number of environmentally friendly ways. DuPont, the maker of Corian - the original solid surface material – is committed to environmental sustainability and carefully manages the impact that Corian has on the environment through responsible choices in raw materials, manufacturing processes and packaging.
Corian solid surface is repairable, renewable and lasts, minimising the need to replace or dispose of it.
Corian solid surface can be reworked to create new designs and products, which means it generates up to one-third less waste than stone in the fabrication process.
Corian has low total VOCs of 60g/l and is GREENGUARD Air Quality Certified in the USA. Pigments used in Corian are free of heavy metals (certified by NSF International), as well as non-toxic and non-allergenic to humans.
Use of this product may contribute to the achievement of Green Star credit points.
The impact that Corian has on the environment is also being minimised through responsible choices in raw materials, manufacturing processes and packaging.

to all the knockers re. enviromental issues-look around your own caves. are they 100% 'green'.
no! didn't think so!
at least companys like dupont (& ppg etc.) are constantly trying to improve their products to be as green as technological possible.
sure they still have a long way to go,but at least they aren't ripping up the ground for our benchtops etc..
corian is a design classic that will never need updating to still be in vogue.
mattban   08.07.09
Corian is now GREENGUARD!!!!!! Oh, how bloody marvelous. Is that the best that can be said of it? The very least I expect of a product is that it doesn't poison the indoor air I breath. Now what about the rest of the planet?

Yeah, right, I'm sure that's their top priority. Such blatant and shameless greenwashing, it's not even funny.
