zaha hadid architects: chaoyangmen SOHO III

chaoyangmen SOHO III by zaha hadid architects

zaha hadid architects recently unveiled plans of their project chaoyangmen SOHO III,
located in the city center of beijing. with the headquarters building of the ministry
of foreign affairs on its east and chaoyangmen soho I and II on its north, it is surrounded
by different urban amenities including outdoor space, offices and residential spaces.
the total construction area of the project is 334,000 square meters, of which 166,000
and 86,000 square meters are designated for offices and retail uses respectively.

the project is designed based on the traditional chinese courtyard, an inner space within
a building. chaoyangmen SOHO III  was conceived as a series of continuous and flowing
volumes that coalesce, which fuse and pull apart as stretched bridges to create a world
of continuous mutual adaptation.

WE love Zaha Hadid
WE www.welab.info   08.13.09
Thrillingly beautiful, stunning Zaha, so simple and so beautiful, bravo !
Monty   08.13.09
The techniques of form making are very similar to how Thom Mayne and Morphosis created their courthouse in Oregon. Image of Courts

I am sick of all this 'blink blink 3d stuff' - this will never look like that - sorry - good design is not generated by a 3d programme - again sorry
max   08.13.09
Agree with Max. This will will be so dated in a decade or two. Think of 'streamline design' the somewhat futuristic style of the first half of the previous century? We now look at it as cartoony.

Didn't Zaha start off with those sharp-edged designs? When she got her hands on software that warps and makes things fluid, it al changed overnight. Just as it did for her some of her peers. It is interchangable and uninspiring. It seems to be the fate of large scale architecture.

amazingly boring.
joker   08.17.09
whats not boring to you joker, so much for the critics, good or bad it's visionary, beijings got balls, something the United States could use more of when it come to new design
newdesign2120   08.19.09
of course good design is not generated by a 3d program dumbass- a 3d program is a tool, it is a designer using the program that generates the good design

oh, i would also like to be an architect who does not has to care about surroundings, relations, loss of space, wether or not the project will blow the budget, ... well everything an architct should care about!
............................................
well maybe not!
............................................

nice form, but architecture??? give us plans zaha!
quote marie antoinette:"why give then plans when they can have images!"
please notice, for all zadid fans, most of her visualisations carefully, and very well, avoids to show anything else but her object!
i wonder what the result of a crossbreed of a frank g. and a zaha h. would give - an other object placer!?
